The Doppelganger is a ghostly double or counterpart of a living person.

Appearance

Doppelganger is an opposite version of Maxwell. He wears a blue rooster helmet, a red shirt and shoes, and green pants. He has evil-looking eyes like he is angry, but the smile simply makes him look mischievous. He looks the same as Maxwell, color aside. In Scribblenauts Unlimited, he only has one bracelet while Maxwell has gloves.

In Unmasked, Doppelganger has a more smug look on his face, his headphones have lost the stripe on them. He also has gloves.

Behavior

The Doppelganger isn't hostile towards the player, or any living creature. They are neutral, meaning that they will defend themselves when attacked. When created, he will express the Evil emotion.

Doppelganger spawns wielding Maxwell's Notebook in every game except Scribblenauts Unmasked.

In all games, Doppelganger will equip or reequip Maxwell's notebook while expressing the Use emotion. While holding the notebook, Doppelganger will use it to spawn a random object every couple seconds.

Because Doppelganger is classified as a monster, other NPCs will run away from him.

About

Scribblenauts

In Scribblenauts, Doppelganger wasn't an object. However, the similar Clone did appear and was used in a few missions.

Super Scribblenauts

In Super Scribblenauts Doppelganger appeared as the final boss. The level opened with Doppelganger arriving in a UFO and stealing everyone and everything he saw, including the final Starite, forcing the player to chase him down as the final level. After defeating him and his UFO, Doppelganger lies defeated and cannot be destroyed. He also appears as a purchasable avatar in the game's Ollar store.

Scribblenauts Remix

In Scribblenauts Remix, Doppelganger returned to having no significant role in the story, and doesn't appear in any missions either. However, he remained an avatar the player can use, appearing as part of the Mythical Creatures avatar pack.

Scribblenauts Unlimited

In Scribblenauts Unlimited , Doppelganger appears after earning the Starite Shard Maxwell's Evil Twin! in Grave Manor, and appears using the name "Maxwell". This time he spawns with Maxwell's Notebook and periodically creates random objects, just like if they player had spawned him.

Scribblenauts Unmasked

In Scribblenauts Unmasked he is one of the primary antagonists of the game. He is accidentally created by Maxwell, whom had his name written in the back of the page Maxwell used to create Gotham. He assists many villains with his notebook through out the game, including the Joker, Lex Luthor, Cheetah and many others.

In the final level it's discovered that Doppelganger was being manipulated by Brainiac, a villain that wanted to used Lily's Globe to open a portal to the multiverse and created a Brainiac army of alternative timelines.

Maxwell befriends him by creating a sister to him called Doppelily, giving him a family he never had. After defeating Brainiac, Doppelganger apologizes to the Justice League for all the trouble he created and help them fix the damage caused by him.

In the comic sequels, Doppelganger is adopted by Maxwell's family, renamed to Alexander, because he was "great like himself," a reference to Alexander the Great. He was given a sketchbook as gift by Edgar and was declared as a Scribblenaut.

Spoilers end here.

Scribblenauts Showdown

In Scribblenauts Showdown, Doppelganger is an available character that can be spawned in the sandbox mode. Interestingly, he uses the sprite from Unlimited instead of his updated appearance from Unmasked or Remix.

Female Variant

Female Doppelganger

Female Doppelganger

In Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Showdown, female Doppelgangers wear green rooster hat-like headwear with two short pigtails, and purple shirts.

In Scribblenauts Unmasked, Doppelganger uses the same sprite regardless of gender, and has no female variant. This is likely due to the existence of Doppelily.
