Cerberus is a hostile, three-headed dog based off the guard of the Underworld in Ancient Greek mythology. If you spawn Death near him, he will follow it, but still be killed. This is probably to reflect the fact that Cerberus' master in Ancient Greek mythology was Hades, the God of Death. Death is the only one who can ride Cerberus when he is not tamed. Just like Hydra, it can wear things on all three heads.
